EDUCATOR PATHWAY

PROGRAM

  • Our approach is designed to support paraprofessionals in their transition to becoming full-time educators, while also providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed in the classroom.

Whether you're looking to take your career to the next level or are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young students, our TA to BA Educator Pathway Program is the perfect place to start.

  • We work with partners to co-create educator pathway programs that provide aspiring teachers with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in the classroom. By involving community members in the design and implementation of these programs, we can ensure that they reflect the values and priorities of the community.

  • We work closely with community-based organizations to develop educator pathway programs that meet the unique needs of each community. Our approach involves working with community leaders and members to identify opportunities and challenges for aspiring educators in their community, and then designing programs that provide necessary skills, training, and support.

We work with local organizations to create educator pathway programs that meet the needs of their community. We help identify opportunities and challenges and then design programs that provide skills, training, and support.

Over the past several years, Equity Institute has helped develop and implement an educator pathway program that features job-embedded learning, mentorship, and 1-on-1 coaching. We're now taking the lessons we've learned to support organizations with designing and implementing similar educator pathway programs.

When Black and Brown teachers are supported, not only do we achieve our immediate goals of improving learning outcomes for all students, we also spark long term changes that put people who understand the issues in places where they can directly support those in need.

This program creates space for people who work in education and who want to pursue teaching but haven’t received the necessary support. Oftentimes, barriers to the education workforce are characterized by lack of support needed to navigate compounded inequities and the invalidation of the potential of those on the margins. This often creates an inequitable system that narrowly defines who is fit to educate.

However, the paraeducators, teacher’s aids, student services coordinators, and administrative assistants who are already working in their neighborhood schools, represent a talented pool of Black, Indigenous, People of Color who are uniquely suited to become educators. These are the people who should be leading the way.

HOW IT WORKS

Our primary objective is to support state and local agencies, schools and districts, and higher education institutions with developing and implementing educator pathway programs.

  • Recognizing the potential of educator pathway programming, we are committed to working with our partners to co-create educator pathway programs that meet the unique needs of their communities. By collaborating with local stakeholders, we can ensure that these programs provide aspiring teachers with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in the classroom. In addition, by involving community members in the design and implementation of these programs, we can ensure that they reflect the values and priorities of the community.

  • Pathway coaching is a program designed to support individuals aspiring to become classroom educators. The program includes a series of coaching sessions tailored to each individual's needs. The coaching sessions are designed to help participants identify and overcome barriers to becoming an educator, as well as to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in the classroom.

  • At the heart of our work is a commitment to utilizing evidence-based practices. By establishing and maintaining relationships with our partners, we can better provide them with tailored technical assistance that meets their needs. This assistance takes many forms, including developing toolkits and training materials, facilitating workshops and trainings, and the provision of 1-on-1 and small group coaching support.

  • Leveraging our Root Cause Equity Analysis, a comprehensive, community-centered process that assesses an organization's diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and practices, we can uncover actionable insights to drive program improvement. Our analysis identifies where an organization's programs must prioritize to become more equitable and inclusive and provide actionable steps. In addition, our Root Cause Equity Analysis helps organizations identify and address systemic barriers to equity and inclusion.
